BSL Level 1 class in progress
British Sign Language is the first or preferred language of over 70,000 Deaf people in the UK, and is a means of communicating, using hand shapes, facial expressions and body language, with a grammatical structure completely separate from English.
BSL Level 1 is aimed at those who would like to begin learning how to communicate with Deaf people. It is divided into three units: Introduction to BSL, Conversational BSL and Communicate in BSL about Every Day Life. By the end of the course, learners will be able to demonstrate basic competence in both productive and receptive skills. They will have enough knowledge and understanding to engage in simple conversations, and will be able to use simple everyday language and finger spelling.
Our Tutors teach to the highest standard, demonstrated by the fact that we have been achieving results consistently above the national average. We offer 60 teaching hours to ensure that all the course material is covered, and make sure our students are as prepared as possible for their exams. Students will be taught in a variety of ways, using a number of different activities, within smaller groups and in pairs in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
