We offer a number of different British Sign Language classes: Beginning with our Taster Sessions and Introduction to BSL courses which run throughout the year and progressing to our Signature accredited courses in BSL Level 1 to Level 3. We also offer courses for businesses and organisations and provide training both online and face-to-face

BSL Taster Session

 

If you want to take a first step into learning British Sign Language (BSL) but without commitment, then our online Taster Session is for you!

Learn the basics of BSL in this highly interactive and fun course. It’s a one off session of 2 hours where you can find out more about BSL from one of our Deaf Tutors and have a go having your first conversations in BSL.

Online Introduction to BSL Course

Our online Introduction to BSL course is a great way to start learning BSL. Learn the basics with teaching from one of our excellent and experienced Deaf Tutors. You will learn such things as; greetings, introducing yourself, fingerspelling, numbers, weather, directions, and much more on this highly interactive and fun course.

The course is taught online via Zoom over 8 weeks with a 2 hour lesson once a week, including a short assessment. Upon completing the course you will have achieved the first module of Signature’s Level 1 Award in BSL, you can then chose to carry the credits forward onto a continuation course running later in the year to achieve the full Level 1 qualification.

Signature BSL Level 1, 2 & 3

If you’re looking for an accredited course to get a nationally recognised qualification, then these courses are for you:

We offer three levels of British Sign Language qualifications accredited by the exam body, Signature. Running either in the daytime or evening, these classes are taught face-to-face and held in the heart of the Deaf community in Nottingham.

These courses are aimed at individuals who would like to learn BSL because they work with, or aspire to work with, Deaf service users, have Deaf colleagues, friends or family, or simply wish to learn a new skill.

Using a variety of resources, teaching methods and activities, these qualifications will give learners with the ability and confidence to communicate with Deaf people in a range of situations.

All our courses follow Signature’s qualification specification to ensure all course material is covered and we have a team of highly experienced tutors and support staff. Our results have been consistently above the national average, demonstrating that our tutors deliver the highest quality of teaching.

Assessment fees for Level 3 are charged at time of assessment. Current fee for all Level 3 assessments is £148.

Corporate Training

We also offer bespoke BSL courses to companies where a trainer will come to your workplace to deliver the training. This can be anything from 3 hours to a short course fitted around your needs and availability. Topics would include meeting and greeting, fingerspelling, exchanging information, family, weather, and much more. We will work with you to design the teaching to include useful workplace vocabulary so that you are best able to offer access and quality of service to your deaf staff, clients and service users.
