Today is the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD)! This year’s theme is: Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.
We are proud to celebrate the incredible deaf leaders who are supporting the deaf community and making Nottinghamshire more inclusive.
Today, we want to highlight some of the leaders within our charity:
Simon, BSL Development Officer – delivering BSL and deaf awareness courses to external organisations.
Edele, Community Development Officer – building strong deaf communities and making sure people stay connected.
Francesca, Advocacy Worker – supporting deaf people to speak up for their rights and making sure they are treated fairly.
Alison, Welfare Rights Officer – helping deaf people access welfare benefits and services in their preferred language.
Ben, Employment Support Worker – helping deaf people overcome barriers to finding work and progressing their careers.
Jacqueline, Community Link Worker – reducing social isolation for older deaf people and connecting them to important services and support.
These leaders are making a significant difference, and together, NDS is working toward a vision of a society where all deaf people can fully participate.
We also want to acknowledge the hard work of other staff, including our Heads of Training & Finance, Services, Interpreting, BSL tutors, interpreters, and our administrator – every role is essential in helping NDS make a difference!
