Lipreading and Hearing Loss Management Classes

Lipreading is an essential skill for individuals who are deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing.

It allows individuals to understand speech by visually interpreting the movements of the lips, face and tongue when sound is not available. This technique also draws on context, language knowledge, and any residual hearing that may be present.

Our classes

Our lipreading classes are specifically designed to help people gain the confidence and skills needed to overcome the isolation often associated with hearing loss. The classes are relaxed, informal and welcoming – with no assessments – ensuring a supportive environment for everyone. They’re taught by a qualified, experienced tutor who is also hard-of-hearing and is dedicated to helping you succeed.

Beyond the basics of lipreading, these classes provide an opportunity for participants to connect with others who experience varying degrees of hearing loss. Sharing personal experiences and practical tips can be invaluable in learning how to cope with hearing loss in everyday life.

Our course takes place on Tuesdays 2-3.30pm at NDS.

Find out more about these courses and book your place through our course booking page.

We welcome students to join at any point throughout the course, and if you sign up mid-term, the course cost will be adjusted accordingly to reflect the remaining sessions.
