Booking and Working with Interpreters & Lipspeakers
Due to the high demand for the service, if you need to book an interpreter it is advisable to book at least two weeks in advance whenever possible. If, however, an interpreter is required at short notice, please still contact us as we may have someone available.
When booking you will be asked to provide the following information:
- Date, time and venue of assignment
- Type of assignment e.g. meeting, conference, training event, etc
- How many people will be involved
- Requirements of deaf and hearing participants
The interpreting process requires intense concentration and mental processing and, as a result, is very tiring. For meetings and events lasting longer than one and a half hours, it is usually necessary to book more than one interpreter.
Interpreters need to have full details of the assignment well in advance. You will therefore also be asked to provide preparation materials, such as:
- Programmes, agendas, minutes, reports
- Briefing papers, speaker’s notes, motions
- Names of participants
- Maps, diagrams and other visual materials
- Copies of slides, OHPs, PowerPoint presentations or other materials which will be read out or referred to by participants in the course of the assignment
- Copies of lyrics, scripts, video transcripts or scripts of films to be shown or any other performance materials must be provided at least one week in advance.
