Sign Language Lesson in progress

BSL Level 6 is aimed at those who already have an advanced knowledge of BSL at Level 3.

Who the course is for

The aim of this course is to further develop your linguistic skills in British Sign Language to an advanced level. It’s designed for those who already work, or wish to work, in a professional capacity with deaf people, such as:

  • teachers of the deaf
  • social workers for deaf people
  • voluntary workers with deaf people
  • employees within a deaf organisation

It also provides a stepping stone into the Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting or Level 6 Diploma in Sign Language Translation.

The course covers the Signature Level 6 curriculum

This teaches students how to maintain sustained communication (receptive and productive) in BSL in both one-way and two-way interactions. Students will be taught within a small group, using a variety of methods, by very experienced deaf tutors. The quality of the teaching is reflected in our above the national average results.

For this qualification, it’s essential that our students are immersed in the deaf community as much as possible – to gain as much knowledge and research as they can to help them achieve the best during their Level 6 course.
