Interpreter Duty-Time Service
If you’re deaf or hard-of-hearing and you need assistance with making telephone calls, reading and writing letters, or booking an interpreter, our Duty-Time Service is here to help. We offer a range of support to ensure you have the communication access you need.
Who we can help
City residents – you can receive support with reading letters, writing letters, making phone calls, and booking interpreters for health-related reasons – such as booking GP appointments, understanding hospital letters, or arranging interpreters for physio sessions, etc.
County residents – you can receive support with reading letters, writing letters, making phone calls, and booking interpreters for general purposes, including health and local authority matters.

Every Monday, 1.30pm–3.30pm
30-minute appointment. You must book in advance. To make an appointment, please text 07792 226250 or email NSLIS@nottsdeaf.org.uk.
Every Wednesday, 10am–12pm
15-minute appointment. No booking required. Come in from 9.45am and collect your booking card at reception.

Every 2nd Tuesday of the month, 10am–12pm
- Mansfield Central Library, Four Seasons Centre, West Gate, NG18 1NH
Every 4th Tuesday of the month, 2pm–4pm
Interpreters at coffee mornings
Interpreters are also available at our coffee mornings for duty-time service (in Mansfield, Newark, West Bridgford, Kimberley, Arnold, Beeston, and Costa at Nottingham City)
We can help you:
- book an interpreter
- make a telephone call (where you cannot use NGT or Relay UK)
- understand letters
- assist you with English to write letters
We can’t:
- fill in benefits forms (this can be done through our Welfare Rights Service)
- complete telephone interviews for jobs
- make personal phone calls to friends/relatives
