Lipreading

Lip reading is a vital skill for people who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing.

It is the technique of understanding speech by visually interpreting the movements of the lips, face and tongue when normal sound is not available, relying also on information provided by the context, knowledge of the language, and any residual hearing.

Our lip reading classes are designed to give pupils the confidence and skills to positively tackle the isolation experienced by people with hearing loss. Classes are informal, friendly and taught by a qualified teacher.

You will also be able to share experiences with people who have different degrees of hearing loss and pick up lots of tips and practical information to help you cope with your hearing loss.

We run a number of 30-week courses, starting in September but as classes are fairly informal people can join the course at any time during the year (dependent on spaces).

Classes run on:

  • Wednesday mornings
  • Thursday afternoons
  • Thursday evenings
