Nottinghamshire Sign Language Interpreting Service.

Nottinghamshire Sign Language Interpreting Service (NSLIS) is a well established, professional service that provides BSL/English Interpreters throughout Nottinghamshire. NSLIS comprises of a team of experienced interpreters, supported by a dedicated co-ordination team. We provide interpreters in a wide variety of settings such as:

  • Medical Appointments
  • Employment meetings and training
  • Conferences
  • Social Services Meetings
  • Legal work

All our interpreters are registered with the Independant Registration Panel (IRP) and follow their code of ethics. The service is fully confidential and impartial; NSLIS prides itself on the quality of service provided through highly trained Staff

Lisa Warnock - Health Worker

Catherine Martland joined Nottinghamshire Sign Language Interpreting Service for the second time in October 2004 after previously working as a Communication Support Worker at New College Nottingham. She supported students in a variety of subjects ranging from Basic Skills to Multimedia and Fashion, so she has a huge range of skills herself.

Catherine has a wide range of qualifications which include Intro Certificate in First Line Management (Level 3) [ILM]; Integrated Business Technology II; British Sign Language Levels 1, 2 and 3; Issues in Deafness [Open University]; Notetaking [CACDP]; and Deaf/Blind Communicator Guide [CACDP].

Catherine's achievements are listed as giving birth to two sons, she's proud of how they've grown up and of what successes they've made of their lives.

Catherine is an avid crafter, she likes making greetings cards and memory albums. She also loves reading, doing puzzles and walking.

Jo Shobbrook

Jo Atkinson has been working at the Nottinghamshire Sign Language Interpreting Service since March 2005 having come to us after working as an administrator and supporting the Director of Communication Services and Training Department at the RNID in London.

Jo has a BSC degree in Communication and Media Studies gained at Loughborough University. She has also achieved her NVQ Level 3 in British Sign Language since becoming the Interpreting Service Co-Ordinator.

Jo lists her biggest achievements as getting married in May 2006, which she says was a wonderful experience and her other great achievement is managing to get up at 7am every day!

She lists her hobbies as walking in the countryside and meeting up with friends and also enjoys attending her local church every week.
