Nottinghamshire Deaf Society Health Awareness Project.
This is a partnership project between Nottinghamshire Deaf Society, Nottingham City Primary Care Trust and Nottinghamshire County Primary Care Trust covering the districts of Gedling, Rushcliffe, Broxtowe and Hucknall as well as Nottingham City itself.
The aim of the project is to provide Deaf Awareness Training to staff in the Primary Care Trusts and to improve access to primary healthcare services for Deaf patients living in those areas.
Deaf patients need to see tangible results i.e. Basic access needs met:
- To know when it is their turn to see the Doctor
- To understand information sent to them and information to display resources available for Deaf patients
- To be able to make appointments easily in and out of hours
- To be asked if require a BSL Interpreter and if yes, one to be booked willingly by PCT Staff when generating appointment
- To be able to follow directional signs in PCT premises
- To have their needs as Deaf patient highlighted and met in any referrals
- To be treated equally by all staff
